The Future of Hollywood Hill Elementary
Hollywood Hill Elementary is included in Northshore School District's proposed school closure and boundary changes. Some proposals would close Hollywood Hill Elementary, reassigning students to neighboring schools. Others would keep HHE open while adjusting attendance boundaries to welcome additional students.
No final decisions have been made. The School Board is expected to vote in March 2027, with any approved changes taking effect in fall 2028.
Why We
Oppose Option 3
We recognize that Northshore School District faces real challenges from declining enrollment.
We support thoughtful and sustainable solutions that benefit students and strengthen our schools. However, we believe Option 3, which would close Hollywood Hill Elementary, does not adequately address the challenges EDAC was established to solve.
Enrollment Imbalances
Would Remain
EDAC Priority: Balanced Enrollment & Efficient Use of Facilities
Closing Hollywood Hill would not resolve enrollment imbalances across neighboring schools.
Under Option 3, projected 2028 enrollment would be:
Sunrise: 273 students
Cottage Lake: 373 students
East Ridge: 387 students
Wellington: 446 students
If enrollment imbalances remain after closing a school, is Option 3 an effective solution?
An Established School
Community Would Be Divided
EDAC Priority: Student Experience & Community Connections
Option 3 would redistribute Hollywood Hill students across three elementary schools, separating classmates, disrupting established relationships, and dividing a connected neighborhood school community.
School communities provide stability, belonging, and meaningful connections for students and families.
Why divide an established school community when less disruptive alternatives may exist?
Additional Boundary Changes
May Still Be Necessary
EDAC Priority: Long-Term Sustainability
Closing Hollywood Hill would be a permanent decision, yet the district's analysis indicates that additional boundary adjustments may still be needed.
Families could experience significant disruption now, only to face more changes in the future.
Before permanently closing a neighborhood school, shouldn't the district demonstrate that its recommendation provides a sustainable, long-term solution?
Our Position
We support solutions that strengthen ALL Northshore schools.
Our goal is not to advocate against neighboring schools or communities. It is to ensure that decisions affecting our students are supported by evidence, aligned with EDAC's guiding principles, and focused on long-term outcomes.
We urge Northshore School District to reconsider Option 3 and pursue solutions that balance enrollment, preserve school communities, and provide lasting stability for students and families.

Decisions about school boundaries and closures follow a set process. EDAC studies the data and develops recommendations, the community gives feedback, and the School Board makes the final decision in a public meeting. The school board vote is planned for March 8, 2027. Changes would not take effect before fall 2028.

EDAC’s Guiding Principles for recommendations were:
Instructional Considerations
Support and strengthen high-quality instructional programs at every school.
Maintain enrollment levels that enable schools to offer a full academic program.
Align boundary decisions with planned program changes, so students can reach services closer to home
Demographics Considerations
Support all students by considering the impact changes have on underserved groups and promote school community, continuity, and equitable outcomes
Utilize school infrastructure/capacity equitably
Use demographic projections to anticipate future growth and minimize the need for future boundary changes
Operational Considerations
Use public funds responsibly
Seek to maximize operational efficiencies in custodial services, building maintenance, transportation, and other district operations.
Ensure the school population can be accommodated in each building both in size and function.
Minimize use of portable classrooms

Use natural boundaries such as major arterials, highways, and waterways if applicable
Support keeping neighborhood students together
